Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony P. D’Esposito, of Island Park, represents the 4th Councilmanic District. Hard work, honesty and respect of public trust has led to two overwhelming victories since his appointment to the Hempstead Town Board in February of 2016, D’Esposito’s last re-election in November 2017 has earned him a four year term.
Councilman D’Esposito has a long history of serving the community. As a Detective in the New York City Police Department, he made more than 600 arrests in connection with murders, shootings, assaults, bribery and possession of firearms. Closer to home, Councilman D’Esposito is a former Chief of the Island Park Fire Department and served as Public Information Officer for the Village of Island Park.
Councilman D’Esposito serves on the Board of Directors for the Francis X. Pendl Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center and is on the Board of Directors of RVC Blue Speaks, an organization which helps promote autism awareness. Councilman D’Esposito is a member of the Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County, a member of Italian Americans in Government and is a co-founder of the Jimi Gubelli Foundation. He is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, 3rd Degree Knight, Father Joseph O’Connell Council No. 3481, Knights of Columbus of Oceanside and a member of the Order Sons of Italy in America, Judge Frank A. Gulotta Lodge #2180. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.
As a resident of Island Park, Councilman D’Esposito witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy. His commitment to the recovery effort was recognized by many throughout New York State, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, who appointed D’Esposito as Co-Chairman of the state’s Community Reconstruction Program. As Councilman, D’Esposito has worked on several Sandy recovery initiatives, including the proposal of a new law that streamlines the process of elevating homes for those living within the FEMA Flood Plain. D’Esposito fought for Sandy victims calling on the state’s NY Rising program to restore funding to repair Sandy-ravaged bulkheads along the California Canal in Island Park.
Councilman D’Esposito was recently named Man of the Year by the Chabad of Hewlett and has received the Nassau County Francis X. Pendl Humanitarian Award, Town of Hempstead Distinguished Service Award and more than 50 police department medals for his commitment to serving and protecting residents, including the 2016 Public Service Award from the New York Police Chiefs’ Benevolent Association. Applying his strong law enforcement background, D’Esposito has backed an array of public safety measures to protect Hempstead Town residents, including, personally training over 1000 employees, neighbors and community groups in the use of Narcan, a life-saving drug that prevents opioid-related deaths.
D’Esposito’s sound and sensible approach to budgeting has won the respect of independent financial credit rating agencies and the trust of Hempstead Town’s taxpayers. Slashing town spending in 3 consecutive budgets demonstrates the highest regard for residents. Cutting payroll costs by $19 million in one year and simultaneously reducing overtime costs by $2.5 million is the Councilman’s commitment to those who call America’s largest township their home. Doing “more with less” is not an adage for Anthony D’Esposito, it is the only way he knows how to govern.
Councilman D’Esposito is a graduate of Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and is also a graduate of Chaminade High School.

The Fourth Councilmanic District of the Town of Hempstead includes East Rockaway, Hewlett, Island Park, South Hempstead, Oceanside and Rockville Centre and portions of Baldwin, Cedarhurst, Lynbrook, Malverne, Valley Stream and Woodmere.
